About
Us
In 1997
we made a deliberate lifestyle choice to move away from Wellington and city life. Buying
this property, developing
the gardens, the pottery and The Station B&B has been a challenge, but hugely rewarding and much more fun than
heading off to the office every day! We’re casual, relaxed, enjoy being
creative and hosting
our B&B guests.
John has a PhD in Zoology and has just retired early from a university career to
be a full time potter. Most recently Helen
worked
as a consumer advocate and research writer for a consumer organisation but also
resigned to concentrate on running the pottery and B&B hosting.
Our three children are in their thirties and have (finally) abandoned us!
John has historical links to the Kapiti Coast through his ancestor Te Rauparaha,
a Maori chief who made Kapiti Island his base.
During the 1830s Te Rauparaha and his warriors raided neighbouring tribes,
even those as far away as the South Island.
John, fortunately, is a benign and peaceful chap, quite content with his four acres
at Te Horo! But he does know a lot
about the history of the Kapiti Coast which he's willing to share with anyone who
may be interested.
