The kitchen was once the ladies' waiting room, the lounge was formerly the public waiting room and still has the original hatch (complete with wire security grill) and kauri counter. The lounge connects to the station master’s office, now a charming queen-sized bedroom with an iron bed and cotton bed linen.  There’s an adjoining dressing room (formerly the parcels room) with a single bed.

The bathroom has an iron claw-foot bath and shower, as well as a loo with a picture perfect view!

The matai floors have been sanded and polished throughout. There’s a woodburner in the lounge for cosy winter evenings and a halogen light for easy reading of our collection of books on local, rail and NZ history.

The Station B&B has TV, radio/CD player, microwave, fridge, stove, hairdryer, iron, heated towel rails, heaters in each room, and electric blankets.

The Te Horo railway station was moved from its original site beside the main trunk line 30 years ago. We began restoration work on the building in 2000. After a constant stream of requests from friends and family wanting to stay the night in a “real train station” we decided to convert it into self-contained accommodation.

The Station B&B sits on the back boundary of our four acre property, with a lovely view towards the east of  fields, hills and  the Tararua ranges. On the other side of the building is a border of native trees and a private garden. Just over the fence is a display of John’s salt glazed pots in a rustic garden setting, the pottery studio and kilns.

The kitchen is well stocked with fresh coffee, herb teas, home made jam, relish and cookies. Cafés and restaurants are not far away for lunches and evening meals if you prefer to eat out.
